Ian Wright has admitted that Bukayo Saka’s recent injury is a blow to England and Arsenal.
The young winger was injured during the first half of the Gunners’ game against Nottingham Forest last weekend and is now a doubt for Gareth Southgate’s World Cup side.
Speaking about the young Englishman’s early injury and whether it could affect his chances of participating in this month’s Qatar World Cup, manager Mikel Arteta, quoted by the club’s official website, said: “I hope not, it was a bad kick. from the beginning. he was limping, but I don’t see beyond that, let’s see how he is in the next few days”.
While the country and Arsenal are keeping it all cross so Saka can bounce back quickly, Wright has highlighted the Gunners’ lack of quality in depth as the reason the 21-year-old may have been overdone.
“It was sad to see, you look at Arsenal and people are already saying he should have rested by now,” Wright told The Kelly & Wrighty Show, quoted by Metro.

“I think if Emile Smith Rowe was fit, he [Saka] I would have had more than one break. We just don’t have the depth, we still haven’t put enough teams into the Europa League to be able to rest, we have to play him, whereas you probably would have thought he would rest against Zurich.

“It’s a concern because we’re not a million miles away from the World Cup and more importantly he’s in good form, which is what Arsenal need at the moment.”
Although England’s World Cup campaign is scheduled to start in just over two weeks, Arsenal still have three big games to play, including a London derby against rivals Chelsea on Sunday.
