Jurgen Klopp made clear his thoughts on how journalists should have responded to the World Cup award to Qatar at the time, criticizing journalists for failing to send a clear message of opposition.
It is worth noting that some clearly objected to the blatantly corrupt procedure that led to the nation winning the honor of hosting the tournament, although more could certainly have been done to expose human rights abuses within the country.
Pressuring players now to challenge the situation belatedly seems like a tactic born out of immense guilt for not holding those responsible accountable at the time.
