Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted that Gabriel Jesus is upset by the goalless streak he is on.
The Gunner signed Jesus in the summer transfer window, landing the Brazilian international from Premier League rivals Manchester City. Jesus has been largely impressive for Arsenal since he joined the club, but he has not scored a goal for the north London side in his last eight appearances.
Jesus’ most recent goal for Arsenal came in their 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in early October. A month has passed without the Brazilian international managing to find a goal for Arsenal.
Although he has not scored a goal for Arsenal in the eight games he has featured in since then, the 25-year-old has recorded four assists in the Premier League and Europa League.
Mikel Arteta admits that Gabriel Jesús is annoyed by the scoring drought
Speaking to BT Sport, Arteta admitted that it bothers Jesus that he hasn’t scored goals in his last eight games. However, Arteta stressed that what Jesús brings to the team is incredible.
The Arsenal manager was also confident that Jesus would find goals for Arsenal again. “I’m sure it bothers him,” Arteta told BT Sport. “Knowing him, when he scores three goals, he wants to score four.
“Today he also had a couple of good opportunities, but what he generates for the team is just incredible.
“Last week he gave three assists. Today he was once again involved in every action and the goals will come”.
Meanwhile, Arsenal secured a 1-0 victory over FC Zurich to finish as winners of Group A in the 22/23 Europa League campaign. Arsenal finished their group stage campaign with 15 points from six games.
Meanwhile, the Gunners have a crucial game in the Premier League this weekend. They make a short trip to Stamford Bridge to face London rivals Chelsea in their next Premier League match.
Arsenal will try to get the best out of Chelsea and keep their lead at the top. The North London side are currently top of the points table with 31 points from 12 matches. They have a two-point lead over Manchester City, who are second.
Meanwhile, Chelsea languishes in sixth place with 21 points from 12 games. They are 10 points below Arsenal’s account.
