Chelsea manager Graham Potter has provided an update on Ben Chilwell’s injury after the England international was stopped with a hamstring problem earlier this week.
Chilwell suffered a suspected hamstring injury during Chelsea’s final 22/23 Champions League group stage match. Chilwell was saved in stoppage time of Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Dinamo Zagreb.
Two members of Chelsea’s medical staff then helped the 25-year-old off the pitch. The injury has left Chilwell a doubt for the World Cup, which starts on November 20.
Speaking at a news conference on Friday, Potter provided an update on Chilwell’s injury.

Potter confirmed that Chilwell would undergo a scan on Friday afternoon and that the extent of the injury would be known by the next day at the latest. The Chelsea manager revealed that Chilwell is doing well and that the full-back is aware of the injury.
“He’s going to get a scan later this afternoon,” Potter said. [via Football.London]. We’ll find out then or tomorrow. He feels good, he is aware of the injury, we have to let the swelling subside and we will know more after that.”
“I wouldn’t say he fears the worst. Until we get the scan, it’s hard to say,” Potter said when asked if Chilwell fears the worst. “At the moment, we are hopeful and keep our fingers crossed. It’s disappointing, of course.
Meanwhile, Potter also said he doesn’t think goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga will be able to return to action for Chelsea before the World Cup. The Spaniard suffered a foot injury during Chelsea’s 4-1 loss to Brighton.
Potter replaced Kepa with Edouard Mendy at half time in their match against Brighton. The 28-year-old also missed Chelsea’s Champions League game against Dinamo Zagreb.
Meanwhile, Chelsea host London rivals and Premier League table leaders Arsenal at Stamford Bridge for their next game in the English top flight.
Chelsea are now 10 points behind Arsenal and will be looking to close the gap to the Gunners when they take on the north London outfit. The Blues currently sit sixth in the points table with 21 points from 12 games.
Arsenal for its part occupies the first position with 31 points in 12 games. The Gunners enjoyed a two-point lead at the top of the Premier League as second-placed Man City have just 29 points from 12 games.
The match between Chelsea and Arsenal kicks off at 5:30pm Indian Standard Time next Sunday.
