English Premier League giants Arsenal are looking to renew their contract with French centre-back William Saliba.

After spending time in the academy at AS Bondy and FC Montfermeil, William Saliba joined Saint-Etienne’s youth setup. The defender later graduated from the Saint-Etienne academy and was promoted to the main team.

After his promotion, he soon became a starter and always put in strong performances. Looking at this, the defender was chased by many big clubs. However, he decided to join Arsenal of the English Premier League on a five-year contract.

He spent the following year on loan at Saint-Etienne, his former boyhood club. After his return, Arsenal initially kept him. But then they decided to loan him out to Nice for the second part of the 2020-21 season. This was followed by another loan agreement. This time with the French giants Marseille.

Willaim Saliba had a stellar 2021/22 season with Marseille. The French defender consistently played at a high level and helped Marseille finish second in the Ligue 1 table.

After this successful spell, Saliba finally got his chance at Arsenal. Arteta made a Saliba headline. The French defender soon established a brilliant partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes.

So far, the duo has started all of Arsenal’s games in the English Premier League. He has conceded only eleven goals and has kept five clean sheets. Saliba has also contributed two goals and an assist.

Willaim Saliba’s contract with Arsenal will expire at the end of the season. However, the Gunners have a one-year extension option, but according to renowned journalist David Ornstein, they are looking to give the centre-back a new contract.

According to Ornstein, Arsenal have already started negotiations with Salliaba’s camp about a new contract. However, they have not yet reached an agreement. But since Arteta sees him as a valuable piece in his project, they will surely offer him a good deal.

The 21-year-old Arsenal defender also made his national debut earlier this year. He has made seven appearances for the French team so far. Saliba is expected to be part of the Franco squad that will participate in the next World Cup in Qatar 2022.

Arsenal, 13 times league champions, have had a great start to the season. The Gunners have won ten of their first twelve games. They have amassed thirty-one points so far and are currently top of the English Premier League table.

Arsenal will face FC Zurich in their next game.
