Reds legend explains what has changed for Liverpool since last season

Mark Lawrenson has suggested that Liverpool’s slow start to the season is due to the Reds being ‘tired’.

After playing in every possible game last season and coming agonizingly close to a glorious quadruple, Jurgen Klopp’s side have started the new campaign slowly and have won just four of their first 12 Premier League games.

The FA Cup champions have now lost back-to-back games against Nottingham Forest and Leeds United and Lawrenson has explained that last season’s efforts may be taking their toll.

“We don’t push anymore,” the Reds legend told LFC TV (via Inside Futbol).

“We have been known as a very, very difficult team to play against.

“Every midfielder we played against in recent years we didn’t allow them to raise their heads.

“Now it is completely different.

“We know we played every game possible last season and you can write in there that maybe we’re a little tired, which is silly when we don’t even have Christmas, but I think we probably are.”

Jesse Marsch’s team seemed to get over and fight with our guys last night, something that can’t usually be said about Klopp’s team, especially at Anfield.

We only have two league games left before the Qatar World Cup campaign comes to a halt and that break could provide a lot of our lads with some much-needed rest.

The break from the big international tournament will also give time for players like Luis Díaz, Diogo Jota and Joel Matip to get back in shape because we have certainly missed them in recent weeks.

Hopefully we can put in four great performances before the World Cup starts on November 20 and when the Premier League resumes on Boxing Day we look like a brand new team.
