Paul Merson admits he’s still worried about Liverpool star after Man City mistake

Paul Merson admitted he is still worried about Darwin Nunez’s link play after failing to spot Mo Salah’s availability for a square ball during Manchester City’s win.

The Uruguayan could have helped seal victory for Jurgen Klopp’s men earlier, but he decided to take full responsibility himself.

“Darwin Nunez has been a bit slow this season, but I think he will be successful,” the former Arsenal player wrote in his latest column for Sportskeeda.

“My only concern is his link game – he didn’t even watch Mohamed Salah’s run against Manchester City and when you play for a team like Liverpool you have to be able to choose those passes.

“What I like about him is that he is not shy. He missed a babysitter the other day, but he still scored after that. He may take some time, but he will come in handy for Liverpool.”

However, the former Peñarol hit man has been in fine form in recent weeks, scoring four goals in his last four starts and racking up a tally of seven goal contributions in 13 games (in all competitions).

We can expect a striker to sometimes make selfish decisions, particularly when they have come under so much fire and are under a ridiculous degree of pressure to justify a £64m transfer fee.

Recent signs suggest we’re going to get every penny out of that figure (and its likely final price of £85m once add-ons kick in).

If our star signing can continue to deliver when Jurgen Klopp gives him the go-ahead, we imagine he’ll only skyrocket after the World Cup and deliver a more than appetizing goal total at the end of the season.
