Tottenham must leave Hugo Lloris behind, according to Jamie Carragher, if they want to progress.
The French goalkeeper was at the center of the discussion after his mistakes caused Tottenham to score twice against Newcastle in their last league game. In the 30th minute of the match, Callum Wilson shot the ball into an empty goal after an error by Hugo Lloris. And they were soon down two when Almiron put in an incredible solo run before easily beating the keeper.
Jamie Carragher in his latest column for The Telegraph has claimed that Hugo Lloris is “not good enough to take Spurs to the next level”.
The veteran goalkeeper is known to be an excellent shot-stopper, but he ‘makes too many mistakes’, making him unreliable in goal. Carragher has identified it as the spot ‘where Spurs have been missing for a while’. He also believes that Conte is right to ask for a couple more transfer windows to put together the squad that ‘would meet his objectives’.
The Liverpool legend’s analysis that Spurs’ goalkeeping position is their weak point is also echoed by Garth Crooks, who criticized Lloris stating that the club “will gain nothing” with the Frenchman in goal. He suggested that the world cup winner is no longer the “world class” goalkeeper that people believe him to be and that Spurs need to replace him with an upgrade.
And it is something that perhaps the hierarchy of the club has in mind. Recent reports have suggested that Spurs are looking for a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris with the likes of Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Leeds United’s Illan Meslier both saying they are on their radar.
