Harry Kane delays contract talks with Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur will have to be patient for talks with superstar striker Harry Kane about a new contract. The Evening Standard reports that the 29-year-old striker wants to wait until after the World Cup to resume any discussions of a deal.

Kane, who is approaching 300 appearances for the Spurs, only has 18 months left on his current contract. Salaries earn the England No. 9 around $230,000 a week. The last time he signed a new contract was in 2018. Previously, he lobbied to leave the North London outfit. However, these sentiments apparently subsided once Spurs signed Antonio Conte as their new manager in 2021.

Bayern Munich expressed interest in bringing Harry Kane to the German giants. In fact, Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann even spoke openly about Kane in a press conference last summer.

“[Kane] I could score a lot in the Bundesliga”, proclaimed Nagelsmann. “I don’t know the price, but it’s very hard for Bayern Munich. We’ll see what happens in the future.”

However, Spurs managing director Fabio Paratici remains optimistic about securing a new contract for his star player. “Kane is the symbol of this club, the best goalscorer in history and captain of England,” Paratici said. “We are confident and always in contact. There is a great relationship between him and the club, we are very optimistic”.

Talks on Harry Kane’s contract with Tottenham suspended

Kane has spent his entire senior career under contract at Spurs, spending a handful of seasons on loan. During his impressive career, he has managed to rack up an incredible 193 Premier League goals. This is already good enough to take third place in England’s top flight since it was reformed in 1992. The Spurs captain also maintains his prolific scoring, as Kane has already scored 10 goals in just 12 league games during the current campaign.

Also as England captain, Kane will look to lead his country to a World Cup title in Qatar. However, the Three Lions face a tough group alongside the USA, Wales and Iran. England is currently fifth in the FIFA rankings. Once the tournament is over, it will be interesting to see if Kane continues to talk to the Spurs about a new deal.
