Newcastle United’s Callum Wilson has said it “would be almost disappointing” if the Magpies were to secure a place in next year’s Europa League.
Taking to The Footballer’s Football Podcast, the £20m striker declared: “I would take any European football! I will play anything, but the Champions League is much better than Europe!
“I’m almost like if you were going to go into Europe, I’d be disappointed because it means the Champions League was close!
“It’s almost as if you entered Europe because you’ve missed the Champions League. If we are going to have European football, then I would like it to be the Champions League.”

Newcastle are off to an impressive start to their campaign and almost a third of the way into the Premier League season, the Magpies sit fourth in the league table having won 21 points from their first 12 games.
Although Wilson’s ambition is admirable and what he says is understandable, the striker should not be disappointed if the Magpies qualify for the Europa League this season.
It would be an incredible achievement if Eddie Howe’s side finished in the top six, as it means the Tyneside club would have finished above one of the big six so early in their long-term project.
