Green Bay Packers Could Trade for Tight End Instead of Receiver

Green Bay Packers could trade for tight end instead of wide receiver – Originally posted on Sportslens.com

The Green Bay Packers could potentially trade for a tight end instead of a wide receiver to help their passing game.

In the off-season, the Packers traded star wide receiver Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders. This caused quite a stir in the Packers fandom. What was even worse was that they didn’t target the receiver until the second round of last year’s draft.

They took Christian Watson from the state of North Dakota. A very talented but raw prospect. Although he helped out a need, he’s not the type of player the Packers should have considered in their approach to winning now.

The Packers are now in talks to trade for a receiving threat again. Maybe this time they’re bound to try to give quarterback Aaron Rodgers more weapons. Maybe adding another receiving threat will help his chances of making the playoffs. The Green Bay Packers are currently +150 to make the playoffs according to overseas sportsbooks.

A source told ESPN’s Dan Graziano to “don’t be surprised if the Packers’ solution at wide receiver ended up being tight end.”

This could make a lot of sense with the receiver market skyrocketing and not having as many available.

Rodgers’ comments on Pat Mcafee’s show yesterday just showed where his mindset is for his guns.

These were the reactions to Rodgers’ comments on Pat McAfee’s show today.

A wide receiver like Chase Claypool of the Pittsburgh Steelers could be a good fit, but the Steelers are asking for too much. One more Christian McCaffrey-like package is his asking price.

Other receivers like the Houston Texans’ Brandon Cooks could also be in play. Given what the Packers have done in the past, it wouldn’t be surprising if they didn’t trade for a wide receiver.

The top tight end on the market is Miami Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki. He was franchise-tagged before the season, as he would become a free agent after this season. Gesicki is more of a receiving tight end than the prototype tight end.

Gesicki is best known for his athletic prowess and being able to catch the ball in traffic. He is perfect for a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers. The Packers already have Robert Tonyan to fill their tight end void.

Landing one of the best wide receivers in the league could be what gets this offense headed in the right direction.
