Dwight Yorke says Marcus Rashford should be Manchester United’s number nine – Man United News And Transfer News

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke believes Marcus Rashford must consistently play as number nine if he is to get back in between the goals.

As reported in The Sun, Yorke feels Rashford has what it takes to be United’s leading man in attack and should aim to secure the number nine spot going forward.

Yorke admits he feels sorry for Rashford, due to his deployment to multiple positions throughout his time at the club.

“No.9 is a specialist role. I feel sorry for Rashford because he has played on the right, on the left and in the middle. You don’t dominate that position unless you play there every week,” he said.

Yorke went on to say that the trust coaches place in players is key to their success, particularly in attacking areas.

“The best thing a coach can tell you, based on my experience, is that you are my number one striker. Having the confidence of your coach and knowing that you will lead the line is huge for any striker.”

Yorke, who has scored 65 times for United, concluded by saying he feels Rashford has enough skill to make the position his own and believes that is where his future lies.

“I know he can do a job in those positions because he’s so good, but the core role is the role he’ll flourish in,” he said.

Despite not scoring in his last five Premier League outings, Rashford has five goals in all competitions so far this season.

An impressive brace against Arsenal and a key goal against Liverpool, along with his substitute brace in Cyprus, were sure signs that Rashford rediscovered his goalscoring form.

However, the 24-year-old has missed some very presentable opportunities in his recent games.

Rashford’s pace and ability to stretch defenses have been praised by Ten Hag and his ability to operate through the middle or from the flank is also seen as a positive by the manager, who continues to play the Englishman ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Rashford will be keen to get back in between the goals and will be keeping an eye out for a visit from Sheriff Tiraspol on Thursday night to boost his numbers.
