Peacock to stream World Cup games in 1080p

All upcoming World Cup matches will be broadcast in Spanish on Peacock. Also, these games on the streaming service are available in 1080p resolution at 60fps (frames per second). However, this means that viewers will not be able to watch the games in 4K on Peacock.

NBC currently owns the Spanish-language television rights to the 2022 World Cup in the United States. Telemundo, the company’s main Spanish-language channel, will broadcast all of the tournament’s matches. However, Peacock, NBC’s streaming service, will also broadcast these games.

Last week it was announced that Peacock will stream the first dozen World Cup games for free. The streaming service currently has a free tier that includes a limited list of content. Meanwhile, the remaining 52 matches can only be accessed on the paid version of the Peacock Premium service.

Peacock will launch its World Cup Hub on November 14. This part of the streaming service will be accessible for the duration of the tournament in Qatar. The hub will include programming such as documentaries, looks at past World Cup competitions and more.

The streaming service also hosts a free virtual World Cup channel 24/7 during the World Cup. The content of this channel consists of nine hours of original programming throughout the live matches. This includes pre- and post-match interviews, reactions, and extended highlights from the games. Peacock will launch this channel on its app on November 18.

Along with the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, NBC/Telemundo/Peacock also has the Spanish broadcast rights for the 2026 World Cup. The United States, Canada and Mexico are co-hosts of that tournament.

For English-speaking viewers, FOX Sports broadcasts the 2022 World Cup in the United States. The games air on FS1 and local FOX stations.
