Wrexham discipline ex-Liverpool youth for x-rated boots mocking Tories

It may not surprise you to learn that Liverpool is not a city that has much respect for the Conservative Party and a former Reds youth player has caused a storm by sharing his political views online.

Paul Mullin currently plays for Wrexham and took to Instagram to share a photo of his new custom made boots:

Liverpool, Mullin, Wrexham, Tories

The media attention surrounding the boots surrounds the message that reads: ‘FUCK THE TORIES!’, a statement that can be heard on the Kop and resounding at Anfield every match day.

Scouser, 27, claimed that he was inspired for these boots by the music of Jamie Webster and it all culminated in a huge reaction online.

Wrexham’s response to the attention was to issue a statement saying: “The Club can confirm that the boots revealed by Paul Mullin on social media will not be worn tonight, or at any other Wrexham AFC match… The Club has taken a neutral position on many issues with a political dimension and intends to continue to do so in the future’.

The Welsh club reminded their striker and all readers that their area MP is a member of the Conservative Party.

All of this has continued to divide fans from clubs across the country and it’s no surprise to see our fans siding with the Liverpool-born player and his political motives.

Football and politics are allowed to overlap and there should be room for people with a platform to share their opinions, if these boots are never worn they have still made quite a statement and attracted attention anyway.

The former Tranmere Rovers striker is unlikely to have ever expected such a fuss and it has all been blown out of proportion.

At a time when the country changes leaders almost as often as Mullin scores goals, all in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis and the massive use of food banks, that should be excuse enough for anyone to talk about the current government.

Well done Paul.
