How to listen to the World Cup on radio

Despite all the attention and acclaim of watching the tournament on television, you can hear the World Cup on the radio.

Here in the United States, that could come in particularly handy given the start time of the World Cup. With games scheduled for 5, 8 and 11 am ET, many Americans commute to work at that time. They can listen to the World Cup on the radio to make sure they don’t miss a moment of the action.

Of course, listening on the radio is also an option for anyone who doesn’t want television commentary. Oftentimes, radio broadcasts offer something different than television commentary matchmaking. Whether it’s enthusiasm, detail, or just a different voice, viewers have their preferences.

Regardless, radio remains a viable option despite the rise in popularity of television and streaming. This is how you can listen to the World Cup in Qatar 2022.

Listen to the World Cup on the radio

One option is Sirius XM. The satellite radio option in the United States has all the World Cup matches. The station is probably channel 157, which goes by the name Sirius XM FC. You can usually use this station to listen to Premier League or MLS broadcasts at certain times.

However, since most World Cup games are broadcast individually, Sirius XM FC, channel 157, is a reliable source. While it hasn’t been officially announced, we expect Sirius to simulcast FOX Sports’ television commentary. It’s not ideal, but it’s better if Sirius XM doesn’t broadcast anything.

Another way to use radio for the World Cup is through English radio broadcasts. BBC Radio 5 Live has broadcasts of every World Cup match.

The exception occurs in the third round of group stage matches. Third group stage games occur simultaneously within each group. For example, in Group B, Iran plays the United States at the same time that Wales battles England. This is to prevent match-fixing between teams in the same group.

Finally, TalkSPORT Radio also has World Cup broadcasts.

These radio broadcasts begin on Sunday, November 20, when the hosts, Qatar, kick off the tournament against Ecuador.
