Odisha FC Mounts a Spectacular Comeback for Their First Home Victory of the Year

Odisha FC pulled off an incredible 2-1 comeback win over Kerala Blasters at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, kicking off Diwali celebrations a few days earlier. The match was part of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL). Harmanjot Khabra scored the game’s opening goal in the 35th minute, Jerry Mawihmingthanga leveled the score in the 54th minute and a Juggernauts substitute Pedro Martin scored the winner in the 86th minute.

After the match against Mumbai City FC, Odisha FC made a change to the lineup that they had previously used. They continued to play in a 4-3-3 formation, with Diego Mauricio operating as the team’s main offensive threat and Thoiba Singh replacing Raynier Fernandes in the central midfield position.

Ivan Kaliuzhnyi and Dimitrios Diamantakos continued to play up front for Kerala Blasters FC despite their team’s earlier loss against ATK Mohun Bagan. The starting eleven for that match was used again.

After seven minutes of play, the Kerala Blasters had the ball in the back of the net, but the referee ruled the goal invalid due to an offside offence. Mauricio came in down the left flank before firing at an extremely sharp angle. This was done before the shot. The attempt to attack Isaac Chhakchhuak was blocked by Prabhsukhan Gill just in time to avoid any damage.

Before Jerry could make his close effort to score, Gill was able to block the midfielder’s shot headed for goal. Jerry pushed the ball into the net with his toe, but because Gill had his glove on the ball at the time, the goal was disallowed and disallowed.

After Osama Malik’s touch on Shubham Sarangi’s long shot from the right in a packed penalty area, Carlos Delgado’s shot was deflected into Jerry’s path, and the 25-year-old made no mistake in finishing from close range, leveling the area. Mark the 1 in the 54th minute of the match.

A minute before the hour mark, Luna’s pass from the corner caught the Odisha FC defense off guard, and they were unable to recover. Amrinder Singh breathed a sigh of relief as he saw the ball hit the opposite post and roll away for a goal kick because, despite his best efforts, he was unable to put a glove on the ball and catch it.

An unexpected event occurred in the 86th minute of the match. Amrinder lobbed the ball into the final third, where substitute Pedro Martin brought him down with a deft touch and struck it elegantly past Gill to give Odisha FC their second Hero ISL win. Kerala Blasters FC were beaten for the second time this season.

The Juggernauts are now in third position in Hero ISL with six points, putting them just one point behind the first place team. They are scheduled to play Bengaluru FC at home on October 27. When they return to their stadium on Friday, October 28, the Blasters will host Mumbai City FC. The Blasters now have three points and are in ninth place in the standings.
