Paul Scholes questions Klopp’s team selection

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has only started seven of 11 games this season.

Liverpool are behind one of their worst results this season; a 1–0 loss to bottom-of-the-table Nottingham Forest. Heading into the match, newly promoted Forest had only picked up one win in the league campaign.

Jurgen Klopp opted for a youthful midfield that included Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho, and his club captain fell to the bench.

Insisting there must be a reason the manager isn’t starting the England international, former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes said at the final whistle on Premier League Productions: “He’s got Jordan Henderson on the bench, should be playing. He is the team leader. He is the captain and the only one, Casemiro’s type of role, and he makes everyone participate.

“It seems to have gotten into a fight with him or have an injury. There’s something not quite right there.”

What’s next for Liverpool?

After midweek Champions League action, Klopp’s side will return to Anfield to face an out-of-form Leeds United on Saturday 29 October.

Both Darwin Nunez and Thiago Alcantara were ruled out of their weekend clash due to injuries and illnesses, so the return of the pair is a significant boost for the team.
