Cristiano Ronaldo termination would have huge cost to Manchester United – Man United News And Transfer News

Cristiano Ronaldo’s relationship with Manchester United is considered to be at its lowest point.

The player was sacked from the squad that faced Chelsea yesterday, having refused to come on as a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, after a season of poor performances, after missing pre-season for a summer looking for a way out.

And now, if The Sun is to be believed, United could face a hefty fee to end the relationship.

United were reportedly adamant about wanting a hefty fee (in the region of up to £20m) for Ronaldo over the summer.

But if United want to terminate his contract in January, the club will be forced to pay £10m to get the Portuguese star off their books.

An early termination would require Man United to pay Ronaldo’s salary in full up to the point of his contract end date, June 30, 2023, in this case.

If United were to terminate the contract before January, the fee would naturally be higher.

Of course, a mutual agreement between the club and the player could negotiate such a fee, although it is unclear whether Ronaldo would have any interest in reducing any potential payout.

Likewise, it’s hard to imagine United paying for the privilege of Ronaldo playing for someone else.

However, that has happened before on numerous occasions at Old Trafford, Alexis Sánchez being one such case.

One possibility would be to allow Ronaldo to go to another club on a free transfer.

Of course, for that to happen, someone would have to want to sign Cristiano Ronaldo and that club would have to be one capable of meeting his considerable financial and sporting demands.
