Galatasaray linked with Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has been linked with a move to Galatasaray. Gundogan is one of the most talented midfielders of his generation.

He joined the Manchester squad from Borussia Dortmund in the 2017 summer transfer window. The 31-year-old midfielder has made 166 Premier League appearances so far, registering 38 goals and 13 assists.

Gundogan has helped the Cityzens claim four Premier League titles, among other honours. He was included in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season last year and has also twice won the Premier League Player of the Month award.

The Cityzens are unlikely to offer him a new contract given that he will turn 32 at the end of this month and is on the decline. He will be eligible to sign a pre-contract with Europe in January.

The German international admitted in 2020 that he would like to play in Turkey, the country of his descent. He said: “Of course, I follow the Süper Lig. Not all games, but from time to time I see some games. There is a team for which I have some sympathy, but it would not be correct to name it now. I could play in the Süper Lig in four or five years. I would love to do that.”

In addition to Galatasaray, Barcelona and Juventus have also shown interest in signing Ilkay Gundogan in recent weeks.

The 21-year-old is currently among the most wanted attackers in Europe. He is valued at £31.50 million by TransferMarkt. But Napoli is expected to demand much more than that given the form he is currently in.

In addition to Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in signing him. Pep Guardiola has a battle on his hands to catch him.
