Portuguese international Ruben Neves has admitted that he would like to play for La Liga giants FC Barcelona if the opportunity arises.
Ruben Neves entered the Porto academy at a very young age. The midfielder later graduated from the Porto academy and was promoted to the senior team.
Following his promotion, Neves became the youngest Porto player to score a goal in the First League. He soon became one of the mainstays of the Porto team. Neves played three seasons for the Portuguese giants before moving to Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Neves then helped Wolves reach the English Premier League by winning the championship. The following season he debuted in the EPL. Neves is currently the captain of Wolverhampton Wanderers and has made over 200 appearances for the club.
Rubén Neves talks about the Barcelona rumors
Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves has reportedly been in talks with La Liga giants Barcelona for a move in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Barcelona are ready to lose their club captain Sergio Busquets at the end of this season. Hence, they are analyzing multiple options to replace the veteran midfielder.
Rubén Neves is currently one of the main candidates for that position. And recently, when asked about a possible transfer to Barcelona, Neves made his position clear.
“Who wouldn’t want to try Barcelona? I think it is a common question for all the players”, said Rubén Neves.
He also added: “It is one of the biggest clubs in the world. Of course, it is always a privilege for me to be associated with clubs of this caliber.”
Now Barcelona reportedly tried to sign the midfielder in last summer’s own transfer window. However, the price Wolves were asking was too much for the Catalans.
The Catalan Giants will reportedly try to nab the defensive midfielder once next summer. Barcelona president Joan Laporta has a very good relationship with Neves’ agent Jorge Mendes. It has been understood that this may be a key factor in signing him.
Meanwhile, English Premier League club Arsenal also attempted to secure the services of Ruben Neves. But like Barcelona, they were reluctant to pay the amount Wolves wanted. But Arteta’s team will seek to sign the midfielder again next summer.
Neves currently plays for Wolverhampton Wanderers. Despite the fact that the captain did the part for him, the Wolves struggle in eighteenth position in the table. They look like favorites to be relegated, which is another reason why Neves is certain to move from the club next summer.
