Klopp blasts blunders as Forest shock Liverpool

Liverpool suffered a shock defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Despite having 75% of the ball and more total shots during the match, the Reds lost their third Premier League game of the campaign. It was also the seventh time the Merseyside club had dropped points in just 11 games.

Asked if his team deserved a victory that day, Klopp was ambivalent. “I’m not sure,” the coach told beIN Sports in his post-match interview. “Deserved? We conceded a goal after a big mistake, which we made. Unnecessary. Completely unforced actually, but it happens.”

Forest clash Liverpool; Pressure on Klopp

While the teams actually had the same number of shots on target during the match, Klopp claimed that Liverpool helped Forest in their attack. “But all the chances they had, we gave them by playing the wrong passes,” Klopp said. “All the chances they had were on the counterattack when we gave them the ball at times when you can’t give them the ball.

The coach also added that his team also wasted multiple easy chances in front of goal. “And then we had five or six clear, 100% obvious ones after set pieces,” a frustrated Klopp said.

“We should have won this game, but we didn’t. And there’s a reason for that, because at one point we weren’t focused enough. And maybe the other side for the same reason, I don’t know. Usually we waste these opportunities, but we didn’t and that’s a reasonable result.”

Injuries have clearly affected this Liverpool side. Thiago Alcantara and Darwin Nunez collected new numbers before the weekend. The midfielder is currently suffering from an ear infection, while Darwin has a minor muscle injury. However, Klopp said that both players should be ready to play next week.

Liverpool’s defeat leaves the team in seventh place in the Premier League table after 11 games.
