Tottenham Hotspur chief scout Leonardo Gabbanini said Spurs really believed in goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini, who spent all of last season on loan at the London club.
The Premier League club had the option to make that deal permanent this summer, but it was Antonio Conte who decided not to keep the goalkeeper.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper made 10 appearances for Spurs in all competitions last season as a backup for Hugo Lloris and currently plays for Fiorentina in Italy.
Tottenham appointed Gabbanini as their chief scout just two months ago and although he wasn’t around when Gollini played, he seems to have learned a bit about the goalkeeper.

Tottenham’s chief scout revealed in an interview with Firenze Viola this week that the Premier League club really believed in Gollini. However, he claimed that a full year behind Lloris was not easy for the 27-year-old, so he probably did not stay at Spurs.
Gabbanini said: “Pierluigi is a talent who has to find the right situation to give his best. He was with us in London last year, Tottenham believed in him a lot.
“A year behind Lloris has not been easy, he has to find concentration.
“However, I have no doubt that he is one of the strongest goalkeepers in Serie A. Here, you really work from close range – there is an inch between doing it right and doing it wrong. Just like the concentration shot more or less distinguishes you from being a normal player or a champion.
