Steven Gerrard breaks silence after Aston Villa sacking

Steven Gerrard has broken his silence after being sacked as Aston Villa manager on Thursday night.

The decision came after the Birmingham club lost 3-0 at the hands of Fulham, following a disappointing start to the season for Gerrard and his team.

Aston Villa are currently 17th in the Premier League table having won just two of their first 11 games and that was enough for the Villa hierarchy to pull the plug on Gerrard’s time at the club.

The Liverpool legend’s reign at Villa Park ended just 11 months into a three-and-a-half-year deal as he was unable to replicate the success he enjoyed during his first job with Rangers.

As managers across the country commented on Gerrard’s firing on Friday, the man himself broke his silence with an Instagram post.

Gerrard took to Instagram on Friday to post a statement about his recent sacking while thanking Aston Villa for the opportunity. Villa’s former boss told the Daily Mail:

‘I would like to thank everyone associated with Aston Villa Football Club for the support they showed me during my time there. I would personally like to thank the board of directors, the players and all the staff for their hard work.

“For the fans, it’s unfortunate that it didn’t work out in the end, but I owe them a debt of gratitude for the way they welcomed me to their club and continued to push the team through tough times.”

‘Aston Villa is a club with a special history, I really wanted to bring back those memorable achievements, unfortunately it didn’t work out. I wish everyone at the club the best for the future. SG.’

Gerrard is still a rookie on the management side of football and is likely to return once the right opportunity arrives. The Liverpool legend will now start to dust himself off as he prepares to return.
