Guardiola denies LFC v Man City is toxic ‘from our side’ despite acknowledging vile Hillsborough chants

Pep Guardiola has stated that he does not feel that the contest between Liverpool and Manchester City has taken on a ‘toxic’ tone.

This comes despite the reality of the horrible chants that originated from the visitors’ wing during the 1-0 loss to the Sky Blues at the weekend.

“I don’t think so. For our part, I’m pretty sure of that,” the former Bayern Munich coach told reporters (as reported by Keifer MacDonald on the Echo). “I didn’t hear the chants. If it happened, I’m sorry.” much. [to Liverpool]It doesn’t represent who we are as a team or a club if this happens.”

This follows after title contenders submitted a report claiming that Jurgen Klopp’s pre-match comments about the financial disparity between clubs in England were “borderline xenophobic”.

It’s important to note that the Spaniard is the first Manchester City employee to come out and apologize for the horrific events on Sunday.

Still, it doesn’t feel entirely representative of how the club feels about the situation when the title holders were only considering an investigation the next day.

A lukewarm response simply won’t change the culture at the club and the willingness of various fans to mock the victims of a stadium disaster who remain deeply affected to this day.
