The era of Erik ten Hag seems to have finally arrived, as if Manchester United’s 2-0 annihilation against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday was anything to go by.
Everything from pressing to passing seemed spot on as United players ran around their opponents. Such was his dominance that the Red Devils ended up taking 28 shots, of which 10 were on goal against the Spurs’ two.
This was supposed to be a crucial week for the 20-time English champions as they took on two members of the top four as well as heavyweights Newcastle United.
ETH has United playing how they want
United were mediocre against the Magpies as they ended up leveling the game but had a chance to seal the three points. But it was a totally different picture against Spurs.
Bryan Robson: “I think this team[#MUFC] They are capable of beating anyone. Chelsea are going to be very tough, but this is a learning curve for our club. It’s a work in progress and our club knows it’s important to be back in the Champions League next year.” talkSPORT]

Not forgetting that the Red Devils have already recorded impressive wins against arch-rivals Liverpool and league leaders Arsenal.
And club legend Bryan Robson feels he has seen enough to admit the club is headed in the right direction and a win against Chelsea is very possible.
Robson told talkSPORT Breakfast: “Yes, they can (beat Chelsea). They’ve shown that after beating Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham, it’s fine, it’s all at Old Trafford, but I think this team is capable of going anywhere and beating anyone.
“Chelsea is going to be very difficult but this is a learning curve for our club because before Newcastle we said Newcastle home, Tottenham home and Chelsea away, this is where we can measure ourselves to see how far we have come and how far . we still have to get there.
United’s global ambassador revealed that the change in mindset of the current United team is due to expert recruiting done in the summer by Ten Hag.
The five permanently recruited players have played a huge part in helping United regain their hubris. And the 65-year-old also added that getting Marcus Rashford back to his best has added to the team’s strengths this season.
“It seems that the new signings are adapting very well. Martinez is doing very well, Casemiro seems like a class player as far as I’m concerned. He sees a very fast pass, but he gets into the right areas of the field every time.
New signings have transformed United
“When we get that pressing game from the front, Antony has a lot of energy and Marcus [Rashford] he’s back to his best this season,” Robson said.
Captain Marvel was asked if he thought the current United could contend for the title and he revealed his exact expectations and what he felt would constitute a good season.
He also asked fans to be patient and not get carried away despite the encouraging results, as it was still a work in progress and the coach needed time to perfect every little detail along the way.
“It is a work in progress and our club knows that it is very important to return to the Champions League next year.
“If you can go on and win the title, that’s a huge advantage, but I don’t think we’re there at the moment. If we can get to the Champions League and maybe have a good cup run, it will be a good season.”
Fans are hoping that Ten Hag can guide the English giants back into the top four and, if possible, add a Cup to his cabinet of titles this season.
