La Liga Giants FC Barcelona are exploring the possibility of signing Argentinian midfielder Enzo Fernández from Benfica in the upcoming winter transfer window. At the end of his loan, Enzo returned to River Plate. he later became one of River Plate’s mainstays. The midfielder continued his growth and began to be sought after by several big teams in Europe. However, the Argentine decided to join the Portuguese club Benfica at the beginning of the current season.
Barcelona interested in signing Enzo Fernández
Now, according to a recent report from Sport, Spanish giants FC Barcelona are looking to sign Argentinian midfielder Enzo Fernandez in the upcoming January transfer window.
Barcelona sees Enzo as the perfect replacement for Busquets. Sergio Busquets has been a starter at the defensive midfield position for more than a decade. The midfielder, however, is past his prime and his contract will expire at the end of the season.
So Busquets sees this as the perfect time to leave the club. Therefore, Barcelona is looking for multiple players who can replace the Spanish international.
His main target for the role was Martín Zubimendi. However, the 23-year-old midfielder has recently renewed his contract with Real Sociedad. So it is unlikely that he will move.
Now another for Barcelona is Rubén Neves. However, there are doubts from part of the management about his performance.
So Enzo Fernandez became the prime candidate for that defensive midfield job. Now Barcelona had already tried to sign the midfielder when he was at River Plate. Former technical director Ramón Planes and coach Koeman wanted to sign him. But the deal never materialized.
But once they are against interested in the Argentine and want to sign for him from next January. Enzo is also liked by many other clubs in the top five leagues.
