The Eagles are considered to be the official successors of both the Kingdom of Yugoslavia/SFR Yugoslavia and the FR Yugoslavia/Serbia and Montenegro national teams, with a history dating back to 1920, but their first truly official game under the Serbian flag was in 2006.
Although they don’t usually advance much in the tournament, Serbia quite regularly have quality for the World Cup. They have missed the European Championship since 2000, so the upcoming World Cup and Euro 2024 will be a chance for the Serbs to really break into the picture.

Generally speaking, Serbia has a handful of European stardom players. Are these players at the top of the game in terms of popularity? No. However, each one fulfills a specific function, and they do it well.
While the loss of Nemanja Matic is less than ideal given his consistency, Dusan Tadic is one of the most exciting players to watch in European football. The Ajax midfielder is the captain of the Serbian team and has the most caps with 90.
However, the winger’s focus may be on the lead of three Italian club players. Dusan Vlahovic and Filip Kostic play for Juventus, while Luka Jovic plays for Fiorentina. All three of those players are talented and have experience in big games.
For those Americans, the name Dejan Joveljic is familiar from his scoring streak for the LA Galaxy in the 2022 MLS campaign. It could be a name on the plane to Qatar.
