Carlo Ancelotti Reacts to Man City Winning Club of the Year Award

Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that Real Madrid were better than Manchester City last season after the latter won the club of the year award at the 2022 Ballon d’Or ceremony.

Man City, who won the Premier League title last season, were named the best club of the year at the 2022 Ballon d’Or awards.

However, the decision surprised many, as Real Madrid had enjoyed a much more successful 2021/22 season. Real Madrid won the La Liga and Champions League titles last season but only came third in the club of the year award.

Liverpool, which finished second in the Premier League and which Real Madrid defeated in the Champions League final, came second in the standings.

At a press conference, Ancelotti said that Real Madrid was the best team, but admitted that he does not know what the criteria are for these awards.

Ancelotti, however, emphasized that he respects Manchester City and congratulated the Premier League side on their award. “I don’t know the criteria for these awards,” Ancelotti said.

“I don’t think they don’t talk about teams, because Real Madrid was the best team, they won the Champions League, but in terms of which is the best club, I don’t know.”

He added: “I respect Manchester City and I congratulate them. We had a hard time beating them in the semi-finals, winning by very good margins, and they won the Premier League”.

“We have already won our trophy, the Champions League”, Ancelotti also said. For its part, Real Madrid have had a stellar start to the 22/23 season. The Whites are undefeated so far this season and are at the top of the La Liga points table.

Real Madrid have 25 points from their first nine games in the Spanish top flight this season. They have eight wins and a draw so far in the league this season. Ancelotti’s men regained their position at the top after beating fierce rivals Barcelona in their previous match.

Real Madrid hosted Barça at the Santiago Bernabéu in their last game and secured a 3-1 victory. Karim Benzema, Fede Valverde and Rodrygo scored the goals for Real Madrid.

The win also helped Real Madrid establish a three-point lead over Barcelona at the top. The Catalan team has 22 points in its first nine games with seven wins, one draw and one loss.
