Breakthrough in negotiations with Michael Carrick now set to be confirmed as Middlesbrough boss – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United legend and former manager Michael Carrick is close to being appointed as Middlesbrough’s new manager.

According to Football Insider, the Englishman is now closer than ever to becoming the new man in charge of Riverside Stadium.

The 41-year-old has been in talks with Boro to become Chris Wilder’s successor.

The talks stalled, but are now back and almost done.

So strong was Boro’s desire to have the former United midfielder at the helm that they stepped down from their original hard-line position in the negotiation and moved to resurrect the deal.

Such a move would see Carrick take his first big step into solo management. He has a job on his hands, with the club struggling.

Football Insider’s report is backed up by Talksport’s account of the situation, which adds that Middlesbrough want to have the former England international in the job at the weekend, just in time for the Huddersfield clash.

Carrick had a short spell as United manager when Ole Gunnar Solksjaer was sacked after a series of poor results.

During his brief tenure, he helped the Red Devils to two wins and one draw.

You did well to stop the rot when everything seemed to be going wrong. The former star was soon replaced by caretaker manager Ralf Rangnick, who was not so lucky.

Rangnick admitted that he tried to persuade Carrick to stay and join his coaching staff, but Boro’s future boss insisted he would step aside along with his other coaching compatriots who made up Solksjaer’s coaching staff.

Hopefully Carrick has a wonderful and fruitful spell with Middlesbrough and uses the opportunity as a springboard to bigger managerial positions.
