Real Madrid Cruise to 3-1 Win Over FC Barcelona in El Clasico

Real Madrid regained their position at the top of the La Liga points table after securing a win over arch-rivals FC Barcelona.

The defending champions hosted Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabéu and recorded a 3-1 victory over the Catalan team.

It took just 12 minutes for Real Madrid to tie the tie and take the lead against Barcelona. Karim Benzema put Real Madrid 1-0 up in the 12th minute of the match before Federico Valverde doubled their lead in the 35th minute.

Barcelona closed the gap in the 83rd minute through Ferran Torres. While the visitors were looking for a draw, Real Madrid struck again. Rodrygo came forward to take the penalty won by Real Madrid and converted it to end the game in the 90+1 minute.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men took the lead through Benzema, who ended a five-game scoring drought. Vinicius Jr’s goal attempt was saved by Marc Andre Ter Stegen, but the clearance fell to Benzema. The Frenchman made no mistake and sent the ball into the net.

Valverde made it 2-0 just five minutes after half an hour. Real Madrid launched a counterattack and Mendy found Valverde on the edge of the box.

The Uruguayan fired the ball past the Barcelona goalkeeper and into the net as Real Madrid established a two-goal cushion.

Barcelona cut their deficit in half in the 83rd minute through Torres. After a good job on the left, Ansu Fati sent a cross to the Madrid area that Lewandowski finished off Torres. The Spanish international scored on goal to make it 2-1.

Barça then looked for a draw that would save them a point and keep them at the top of the points table. But they never found another, and instead, it was Real Madrid who scored.

Eric Garcia caught Rodrygo inside the Barcelona penalty area and following a VAR review, the referee awarded the penalty. Rodrygo took the penalty himself and converted to end the game.

The result leaves Real Madrid at the top of the LaLiga points table. Real Madrid has 25 points in its nine league games. They are unbeaten in the league so far this season and have eight wins and one draw.

Meanwhile, this was Barcelona’s first La Liga loss of the season. They now sit in second place with 22 points from nine games. Barcelona has seven wins, one draw and one loss.
