Manchester United & Newcastle United Play Out Goalless Draw

Manchester United and Newcastle United shared points after drawing goalless in a Premier League game at Old Trafford.

Both teams had their chances to win the game, but in the end neither could and the game ended goalless. Joelinton should have given Newcastle United the lead when Kieran Trippier’s cross found him inside the area in the first half.

But the Brazilian midfielder could not convert, his header hit the crossbar. He should have done better when another opportunity presented itself, since he was the first to rebound. Joelintion’s header this time hit the post and Diogo Dalot cleared the ball out of play.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who made it to the starting eleven, twice thought he had given Man Utd the lead. But none of the goals counted.

Fred sent a pass to Ronaldo, who passed it to Jadon Sancho before receiving it back from the Englishman and pushing the ball home in the 48th minute. However, the goal was disallowed for offside and rightly so. Replays showed that Ronaldo was well offside in the build-up.

Ronaldo put the ball in the back of the net in the minute. A Newcastle United player appeared to have taken his due free kick as he passed the ball to goalkeeper Nick Pope. Ronaldo ran over him and put the ball into the empty goal.

But the referee ruled out the goal despite Man Utd players arguing why the goal should have stood. The referee considered that the restart had not yet occurred when the Newcastle United player made that touch. And, hence the goal did not count.

Ronaldo was also shown a yellow card, either for interfering with play or for his protests to the referee.

Fred should have given Man Utd the lead in the 88th minute of the match when Marcus Rashford sent him the ball.

Rashford had rounded off Pope, but instead of aiming at the goal from a tight angle, he passed the ball to Fred. The Brazilian’s attempt, however, went wide, but he should have done better.

The result, meanwhile, leaves Manchester United with 16 points from their first nine league games this season. They have five wins, three losses and a draw so far in the English top flight this season.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United have 15 points from their first 10 games. The Magpies are sixth in the table, one place behind Manchester United.
