Tottenham Hotspur May Not Activate Clement Lenglet’s Buying Clause

Tottenham Hotspur will decide not to make Clement Lenglet’s move permanent, according to reports.

Lenglet made a surprise loan move to Tottenham in the English Premier League this summer.

The defender has appeared in five of his last six games and has shown an impressive performance.

He came to the club as a substitute defender, as Spurs had some injury problems last season.

While speaking to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur insider John Wenham revealed that the French defender will receive “harsh” treatment from the Premier League club. At the end of the season, his contract will not be indefinite and he will have to return to Spain.

He spoke: “We were looking for a top defender, Bastoni, Gvardiol. Davies is a little bit below that level and I think Lenglet is at the same level as Davies.”

Despite showing some performances, the defender is not an upgrade for Ben Davies. The journalist also thinks that Lenglet is not at the same level as Dier or Romero. But he is better than Ben Davies, as the Welshman has been playing in the Premier League for 10 years.

The journalist also believes that Spurs will go for a top defender next season, after sending the Frenchman back to his parent club. Regarding Lenglet’s final situation, he thinks: “They will thank Lenglet for everything and he will continue on his way. That’s tough because it’s good and I like it, but it’s not better than what we have.”

During the summer, a new name arrived from Germany, which is Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig. Chelsea came very close to closing the deal. But Leipzig decided not to sell it.

As things stand, Fabio Paratici is also interested in getting the player. A report from Football Insider claims that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a close eye on the highly rated left-footed centre-back. But the assessment of the Croatian is also very high.

Earlier this month, Lenglet spoke about his new team and tough training regimen. While speaking to SPURSPLAY, he spoke: “I was a bit tired at the beginning of the season because the preparation was very hard and I have to adapt to the intensity of the Premier League and in this group, now I am better.” I am going up and I still hope to go up for a long time.”

Lenglet started at Barcelona under Ernesto Valverde, but after Xavi’s arrival his playing time was limited to the substitutes’ bench. He has just appeared 21 times with the new Barcelona coach.

After arriving at Tottenham Hotspur, Lenglet has appeared a total of 7 times with Antonio Conte. Whether or not he stays beyond this season, the market for him will go up after playing in the English Premier League.
