The former Manchester United defender, Marcos Rojo, suffered a serious injury, a setback in the anterior cruciate ligament, during the Boca Juniors match against Sarmiento.
As a result, the defender will undergo surgery, with an operation scheduled for next week.
The Argentine is expected to be sidelined for seven to eight months.
The former United star wrote on his social networks: “It is not the first time (nor will it be the last) that I have had to get up after a heavy blow. You’re already aware of yesterday’s unfortunate play and what time I’ll be off the court!
“It’s hard, it’s going to cost and you have to try to think as little as possible… But I know it’s a matter of time, and after so many years in football I can say that I’ve never felt as supported as in these difficult times!”

Shortly after, there was an outpouring of messages of support and encouragement for the 32-year-old.
The Red Devils contingent was led by David de Gea, who wrote: “I love you, friend!”
Eric Bailly, currently on loan from United with Marseille, was in line to assure Rojo and the world of his unconditional support.
Other exreds who followed the admirable gestures of De Gea and Bailly were Juan Mata, Sergio Romero and Ander Herrera.
Rojo joined Boca Juniors from United in 2021 after former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deemed him surplus to requirements.
Fans still have fond memories of the player who built a reputation at Old Trafford for his no-nonsense and ruthless defence. We wish Rojo all the best in his recovery.
