Liverpool dealt injury blow as 23-year-old is a ‘doubt’ for Man City visit

Liverpool have already had their fair share of injury problems this season and have taken another hit ahead of the game against Manchester City.

As reported by James Pearce and David Ornstein for The Athletic: ‘Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate is a physical doubt for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester City at Anfield.

He missed training on Friday due to a muscle problem and was due for further evaluation on Saturday, putting his appearance against City in jeopardy.

“It is understood that the problem is minor, but Liverpool will not take any chances with a player who recently returned to action after two months out.”

It is a real blow for the 23-year-old, who has recently made a long-awaited comeback from a previous physical issue and this hurdle will be very frustrating for him and the coaches.

We can take comfort in the fact that the defender seems to be fighting only minor issues this time around, so his time on the sidelines should be brief.

It was believed that Joe Gomez would replace the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold at right back, but given this problem with our No. 5 and with Joel Matip, our No. 2 may be forced to move through center.

Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to make Calvin Ramsay his debut against Pep Guardiola’s side, so it looks like we may have James Milner in the starting lineup against his former club.

It’s far from ideal for the boss, who will be more than aware that our defensive weaknesses have already been the biggest problem this season and changing the lineup won’t help much.

We’ll have to wait and see which team he shows up for and how long the Frenchman is out, but hopefully we can get through this weekend unscathed, taking what would be a massive three points.
