Paul Scholes Lavishes Praise on Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has praised Cristiano Ronaldo, calling the Portuguese a “sensational footballer”.

Ronaldo and Scholes were team-mates at Man Utd during the former’s six seasons with the Old Trafford side in his first spell at the club.

It was at Man Utd that he emerged as one of the best footballers in the world. Ronaldo made 292 appearances for the Red Devils between 2003 and 2009, scoring 118 goals for the English side before joining Real Madrid in 2009.

Ronaldo is now back at Man Utd after sealing a sensational return to the Premier League club in the summer of 2021. He has left Juventus to re-sign with Manchester United.

Ronaldo recently reached another milestone in his illustrious and trophy-filled career at the club. The Portuguese scored Man Utd’s winning goal against Everton in their last league match, marking his 700th career goal for the club.

Scholes admits he never thought Ronaldo could score 700 club goals when the Portuguese first arrived at Man Utd.

The former England international also lavished praise on Ronaldo, stating that the 37-year-old is still going strong from the looks of his performance against Everton.

He also described Ronaldo as a “sensational footballer” whose career is difficult to describe in words. “Absolutely sensational, it is difficult to put into words the career he has had and is still going strong. I met him when he came when he was a youngster from Sporting, he was brilliant, cocky, he had the skills, but he soon learned that he had to start scoring goals, creating goals,” Scholes told BT Sport.

And he added: “I never thought I could score 700 goals. I never saw that when I was young, but what he did with Real Madrid in Spain, he is a sensational footballer. He’s still going strong from the look on Sunday.”

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has had a rocky start to the 22/23 season with Man Utd. The Portuguese international has made 11 appearances for the Red Devils but has only scored two goals so far this season.

Nor is he a permanent fixture in Man Utd’s starting XI, having only made one Premier League start this season.
