Ex-Red singles out one Arsenal star as someone he’d love to see at LFC

Emile Heskey has explained why he would love to see Liverpool make a move for ‘fantastic’ Arsenal attacker Gabriel Martinelli after the footballer stunned Joel Matip at the Emirates.

The Brazilian, who scored and registered an assist in the Gunners’ recent 3-2 win over the Anfield side, has been in sensational form for Mikel Arteta’s side and has already scored six goals in nine Premier League games. this season.

At just 21, the Brazil international is already one of Arsenal’s most important players and Heskey has admitted he would love to see the winger at Anfield, even if he is highly unlikely to move on to league rivals.

“I can’t imagine Arsenal letting Gabriel Martinelli go anytime soon, but he would definitely be someone I’d be looking at if it was Liverpool,” Heskey told Ladbrokes (via the Liverpool Echo). “If you look at that aggressiveness in his game, and the way he’s played so far this season, there aren’t many with his ability. He goes up and down the field, without stopping, for 90 minutes. He has the ability to push players, take them out and put them in position.

“He’s confident and comfortable on the ball to a point where as a defender you’re not quite sure if he’s going to shoot, cross or attack you. He is a fantastic player and someone that everyone would love to play with and would hate to play against. He doesn’t give you time at all.

“There was a moment in Sunday’s game where Joel Matip was dealing with a ball in the air, it looked like he was in complete control, and out of nowhere Martinelli comes in, closes it off and takes the ball from him. He got the body from him along the way, and he’s a strong guy these days, so once he’s in that position, he’s hard to beat. That was from something that wasn’t even a 50-50 ball; it was more a ball of 70:30 in favor of Matip.

“Players like that, you will always want them on your team.”

It could be argued that the No. 11 Arsenal is similar to Reds favorite Luis Diaz with his impressive work-rate and fast, direct style of play. Martinelli certainly has you on the edge of your seat when you’re watching it.

If the winger continues to impress for the Gunners this term, then hopefully some of Europe’s biggest clubs will be interested in signing him at the end of the season.

We already know that Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the former Ituana player, telling the club’s official website in 2019 that he was ‘a talent of the century’.

However, the North London side have started the season extremely well and Martinelli can see the Emirates as the best place to further develop as a footballer.

Arsenal are the leaders of the Premier League at the moment and are already 14 points ahead of Liverpool.

The Merseysiders host Manchester City on Sunday, where a win could be a real turning point in their season, we certainly expect that.
