Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is nothing like the player he used to be before his injury, according to talkSPORT expert Jason Cundy.
The Dutch international missed much of the 2020/21 season after being injured by Jordan Pickford, although he returned and returned to full form with Liverpool in 2021/22.
So far this season, though, Van Dijk has been in a bad way, and while he’s far from the only one in this offbeat Liverpool team, his drop in form has clearly affected the rest of the team.
See below as Cundy makes it clear that she thinks we’re just not seeing the same Van Dijk we saw when he was in his prime before his long absence due to that serious injury…
? “I really feel sorry for Van Dijk…”
? “But you can see that he is not the same player that he was. Something change.
? “Right now, he’s nowhere near the player he was.”

Liverpool signed Van Dijk from Southampton in January 2018 and he is sure to become one of their best players from the Jurgen Klopp era.
Still, for now, it remains to be seen if he is actually having the same positive impact for LFC, or if they would do well to bring in a long-term replacement for him in the near future.
