Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has praised Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portuguese superstar reached the club’s 700-goal milestone.
Ronaldo scored the 700th goal of his illustrious trophy-laden club career as Man Utd met Everton in the Premier League in their previous game. The 37-year-old came off the bench to put Man Utd ahead and help them win three crucial points.
Speaking to the official Man Utd website, Ten Hag said it is unbelievable that Ronaldo has scored 700 goals for the club when not many players play 700 games.
“It’s phenomenal. and soccer is [about the] team and we put it in some way: I think Cristiano, he knows we can’t do it without the team, but I have to say it’s a great individual performance,” Ten Hag told Man Utd’s official website.
‘It’s unbelievable’ – Erik ten Hag praises Cristiano Ronaldo’s record 700 club goals
“If you achieve this, it’s unbelievable: 700 goals for a club, and not many players even achieve 700 games, and he scored 700 goals. So I’m very happy for him, I really want to tell you and I congratulate him,” added the Man Utd manager.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s goal against Everton was only the second he has scored in the 22/23 season. He has had a difficult start to the season and is no longer an unbeatable starting eleven.
Ronaldo has so far made 10 appearances for the Old Trafford side in the 22/23 season. But he has made it to the starting eleven only four times. Only one of them came in the Premier League.
In the English top flight, he has played seven games for the Red Devils so far in the 22/23 campaign. Six of those were appearances off the bench.
He had gone without a goal in the first six games before finally securing one, against Everton.
Ronaldo, however, has started every one of Man Utd’s Europa League games so far. He made it to the starting eleven against Real Sociedad, FC Sheriff and Omonia.
He scored his first goal of the season as Man Utd met FC Sheriff in the Europa League. Man Utd secured a 2–0 victory in that game, with Ronaldo scoring the second. The 37-year-old converted from the spot after Diogo Dalot had won a penalty.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo is hoping to turn things around after a far from ideal start to the season. His goal will be to force his return to Man Utd’s starting XI.
