Borussia Dortmund appear to be in a tough spot if they intend to retain their midfield star Jude Bellingham beyond the summer.
Along with longtime fans Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid are said to be already preparing to start their transfer searches.
Last week it was revealed that Madrid have launched their campaign showing off their muscles to Bellingham, saying this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to become a ‘young galactic’.
Bellingham left England in 2020 to join Dortmund for a fee of around €30m. The competition from Dortmund at the time? United.
The young local from Birmingham and his family felt it was not the right stage in his career (then aged 17) to launch himself headfirst into one of the world’s biggest clubs in the world’s biggest league. However, after this season, it could be the ideal time for Bellingham to reunite with Jadon Sancho and become a regular at Old Trafford.
Now 19 years old and in his fourth season as a professional footballer, other big suitors are beginning to appear and make their presence known in what is likely to be the summer’s transfer race.
According to German outlet Sportbild, Chelsea have already informed Dortmund of their intention to pursue Bellingham.
The report says that the London club is willing to pay more than 100 million euros to acquire the English talent. Chelsea’s figure of intent has already been passed on to the Black and Yellow bosses.
Athletic revealed that at least a sum of 100 million euros would be needed to convince Dortmund to enter into negotiations.
In his first summer as Chelsea owner, American businessman Todd Boehly showed the rest of Europe his fearless, and perhaps slightly unhinged, approach to the transfer market.
Given the credibility of the local German source and Boehly’s spending spree, Chelsea will almost certainly join Bellingham’s race as major bidders, and they are unlikely to be shy in their discussions.
In addition, Boehly has already made efforts to bring in expensive young English talent such as Carney Chukwuemeka and Tyler Dibling.
It’s only October and two major clubs have already signaled to the world their strong resolutions to sign Bellingham. There is a long year of this saga ahead.
