Rangers legend Ally McCoist has called Bobby Firmino “one of the smartest footballers” he has ever seen after the Brazilian scored twice and assisted another in Liverpool’s 7-1 win at Ibrox last night.
The victory leaves Jurgen Klopp’s side second in Champions League Group A and means that when the Reds travel to Amsterdam to take on Ajax in two weeks’ time, they will know that a single point will see them advance to the knockout stages.
With £65m small forward Darwin Nunez signing this summer, there were suggestions our No. 9 would see his playing time limited this term.
However, Firmino has been exceptional this season, and after scoring his seventh and eighth goals of the campaign in Glasgow, McCoist couldn’t contain his admiration for the Brazilian international.
“I think he is one of the smartest footballers I have seen in a long, long time,” the 60-year-old told talkSPORT (via Daily Mail). “His game awareness and game intelligence from him is absolutely second to none. great soccer player
“Fast feet, good in the air. But smart, she sees it, she knows where to go, she gets into his pockets. I think he is a very, very smart player.”

The former Hoffenheim player is undoubtedly a unique player.
He has dominated the role of the false nine in recent seasons and has been one of Jurgen Klopp’s most important players since the German took charge of the club back in 2015.
Many believed that Firmino would have to settle for a place on the bench much more often this season with Nunez’s arrival at Anfield, but last night suggests the pair can shine together at the top of the pitch.
It will be interesting to see what changes Klopp makes to the attack that started at Ibrox when we host Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.
Diogo Jota and Mo Salah made impressive impacts off the bench last night and it looks like our German tactician has some tough decisions to make.
