The Manchester United sale has become more complicated after the Glazers slapped down a massive £9bn price tag.
Sir Jim Radcliffe showed interest in buying the Red Devils before the Glazers revealed their comical valuation.
This massive number suggests that if this deal happens, it may become the most expensive sports club purchase.
The acquisition of the Denver Broncos by the Walton-Penner Group is the largest purchase at the moment, which was for around £4.2bn earlier this year.
Comic assessment of Manchester United
As it is, the Glazers don’t want to part ways with United unless they get a huge offer. According to the Daily Star, the Glazer family will listen to offers if they receive a £9 billion offer.
Right now, the Dallas Cowboys are the most valuable sports club worth around £7.2 billion. The other two prized assets, the New England Patriots and the New York Yankees baseball franchise, are valued at around £5.7bn and £5.3bn, respectively.
In the world of football, Real Madrid and Barcelona are the most valuable clubs with valuations of £4.6 billion and £4.5 billion. Manchester is in third place with a reported valuation of £4.1bn. The fourth and fifth follow Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
Jim Radcliffe on his conversation with Glazers
British billionaire Jim Radcliffe recently revealed his club takeover discussion with the Glazers. Radcliffe admitted that he had talks with brothers Joel and Avram Glazer, but that they had no interest in selling the club at this time.
Radcliffe said: “I am a lifelong Manchester United fan.” He also revealed, “I met Joel and Avram, and they are the nicest people. they are gentlemen and they don’t want to sell”.
He concluded with: “We cannot sit back and wait for Manchester United to be available one day.” Radcliffe made an offer to buy Chelsea when they were up for sale.
The Glazers faced much backlash from United fans for their strategy of managing the club over the last 17 years. They took over the club in 2005 for around £800 million.
This hatred grew further with the utter dominance of Manchester City and Liverpool in the league in recent years. The anger of the fans became more violent when Glazers participated in the European Super League project.
A huge protest occurred during the match against Liverpool in 2021 at Old Trafford. That protest forced officials to postpone the game back then. Day by day, these types of protests are increasing.
In an ideal world, it’s hard to see anyone willing to spend more than £9bn on a club that is valued at less than £4bn in the current scenario.
