BBC pundit blown away by ‘magnificent’ £36m Liverpool star after first-half performance v Rangers

Jonathan Woodgate was particularly impressed by Ibrahima Konate’s first-half performance for Liverpool.

The Frenchman replaced an injured Joel Matip and enjoyed a strong performance as the men in red beat Rangers seven goals to one.

“Ibrahima Konate is having a great match. He is such a solid defender,” the former Leeds United star told BBC Radio 5 Live (via BBC Sport). “He has been magnificent in this half.”

It’s not a performance that should make fans assume Jurgen Klopp’s side are back to their best before a decisive tie with Manchester City, although it certainly never hurts to get a big scoreline against a league-level rival. Champions League.

Despite a somewhat lengthy injury layoff, our No. 5 showed few signs of having been absent from the first XI for an extended period of time.

Big questions must remain about our midfield and the ease with which Rangers registered their early effort, but it’s reassuring to see the impact the former RB Leizpig player had on our defensive solidity.

If our German tactician can pull off a few midfield miracles in time for a meeting with Sky Blues on Sunday, we may still have a great chance of getting a result against the title holders.
