Manchester United could have the advantage over their rivals in the race for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinković-Savić.
The Serb has been linked with United on multiple occasions, but a move never materialized, and based on current evidence, the rumors are unlikely to die down any time soon.
Recently, the former Italian player and current TV commentator advised the player to snub the Red Devils in favor of Manchester City, where he would have a similar effect to Kevin de Bruyne.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via SportWitness, Milinković-Savić could be on the move in January, with Juventus being the most interested suitor.
With just 20 months remaining on his current deal with the Biancocelesti, the player could be available for a reduced price.
“There is an honor pact between the biancoceleste president, the player and his agent Mateja Kezman’, which is that the 27-year-old can leave ‘if a top-level proposal arrives’.
“Not only that, but Lotito would ‘prefer to see him abroad’ so as not to have to face him twice a year in the league.”
This would greatly increase United’s chances of acquiring the 27-year-old’s services.
Juventus are said to be preparing to pounce on Milinković-Savić, with a January offer on the cards.
An offer that starts at €50m and rises to €60m with bonuses could see Lazio negotiate and try to find a compromise that will see their star finally leave.
Milinković-Savić has been in good form this season. In nine Serie A appearances, he has three goals and seven assists to his name.
With United’s midfield problems, he could offer a solution. It is also cheaper, and with the advantage over Juventus, a deal could be struck if the club decides to go in that direction.
