Alex Sandro still hoping to earn new Juventus contractJuvefc.com

Once upon a time, Alex Sandro was among the best left-backs in the world. The Brazilian joined Juventus in 2015 following an impressive season at Porto and quickly established himself as a key component in Max Allegri’s starting line-up.

Sadly, the 31-year-old has been on the decline for the past few campaigns, while he remains one of the club’s top earners.

For his part, Juventus CEO Maurizio Arrivabene surely does not appreciate that prescription and has pointed to Sandro’s salary as a major financial burden on the club.

While management tried to find a new contract for the veteran last summer to no avail, most of us expect the two sides to part ways once the player’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign.

However, the Brazilian international is still hopeful of winning a new contract, although he admits the decision is in the hands of the club.

“It’s the only contract I have, but I can’t renew it,” the winger said in his post-match interview with DAZN (via Calciomercato) after Juve’s victory over Bologna.

“I would like to extend my stay, but it depends on the club’s board.”

Juve FC says

If Sandro is willing to take a BIG pay cut, perhaps Juventus would consider the idea.

Arguably, however, it would be better for the club to go for a new signing, while bringing back one between Luca Pellegrini and Andrea Cambiaso as a backup option.
