Liverpool 3-3 Brighton: Player Ratings – What the media and statistics say – Liverpool FC

It was another dismal defensive display from Liverpool as they conceded twice, battled to 3-2 and then conceded again in a 3-3 draw with Brighton.

The Reds made a wholly unconvincing return to action after what looked like a useful break, possibly deserving of losing at Anfield.

A spirited comeback at least saw Liverpool go from 2-0 to a 3-2 lead, but Leandro Trossard’s late equalizer felt inevitable.

It was another poor result in an increasingly worrying season, with Jurgen Klopp seemingly having no end of problems to tackle.

Here we compare our players’ ratings with those of Liverpool Echo, WhoScored, FotMob and This Is Anfield readers.

Unsurprisingly, Trent Alexander-Arnold (4.5) scored the lowest average rating for Liverpool, in what was a painful watch.

Instead of recovering from his omission from England earlier in the week, the right-back was guilty of two goals and a shadow of his best self throughout.

The Echo’s Ian Doyle lamented Alexander-Arnold’s “lack of awareness” over Trossard’s second goal of the day, in a moment that summed up his sleepy start to the season.

Meanwhile, TIA’s Joanna Durkan said it was an exhibit the 23-year-old “will never want to see again”, declaring that “better days” are yet to come.

Kostas Tsimikas (5.4) was next for the worst qualifying bets, simply for not producing enough attacking quality in the absence of Andy Robertson.

The Greek failed to complete a successful dribble at Anfield, according to FotMob, and also completed just one of seven cross attempts.

In third-lowest place were Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson and Fabio Carvalho, who all earned a 5.5 rating and struggled in their respective roles.

Durkan was frustrated that Van Dijk allowed the ball to go “straight through him” for Trossard’s late equalizer, while Doyle felt there was “not much quality” from Henderson.

The best score went to Roberto Firmino (7.8), who is having a much improved season and took both of his shots with aplomb.
