Erik ten Hag has been named Premier League Manager of the Month for September.
Officially announced on the club’s website, Ten Hag collected the award, despite United only playing two games in the calendar month.
United started September with an away win at Leicester City. A goal from Jadon Sancho was enough to give Ten Hag all three points against the struggling Foxes.
United then followed it up with a magnificent 3-1 win against Arsenal, a display that no doubt had a huge influence on the fate of the award.
An Antony debut goal gave United a perfect start to the day, before Bukayo Saka equalized for the visitors just after half-time. Then came two counterattacking goals from Marcus Rashford to take away Arsenal’s momentum and secure an impressive three points.
The award marks an impressive turnaround for Ten Hag, who had a horrible start to his United tenure.
Opening weekend defeats to Brighton and Brentford respectively meant that United sat bottom of the table after the first two rounds of matches. Since then, Ten Hag has found a formula that he has seen alongside him with his last four domestic games.
This is only the second time a Manchester United manager has won the award in the last decade. Ten Hag joins Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the only winners since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.
Solskjaer won the award in 2019, his first month in charge after José Mourinho was sacked.
Cap off a great month for the club with Marcus Rashford picking up Player of the Month, alongside his manager.
Ten Hag will hope this is the first of many and will do his best to make sure he doesn’t get the curse of losing the next match after collecting the prize.
The United manager will need all his tactical notion to avoid defeat in United’s next outing with a trip to the Etihad next Sunday afternoon.
