After laying down the wreath, players took a photo next to the memorial, in what was a valuable opportunity to learn about the horrific events of the tragedy, as well as the ongoing fight for justice for the 97 supporters who lost their lives. .

The official Twitter account of the German youth teams shared the images along with the messages “IN MEMORY OF 97” and “YOU WILL NEVER WALK ALONE”.

Harvey Elliott appeared in the friendly later that night, with Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton as an unused substitute.

England secured a 3-1 victory thanks to goals from Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun, Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher and Man City’s Cole Palmer.
