Luis Suarez assists Darwin Nunez to get back on goal trail – Liverpool FC

Darwin Núñez scored for the first time since the opening day of the Premier League, with Luis Suárez setting up a much-needed goal for the striker.

To say it’s been a rocky start to Nunez’s life at Liverpool would be an understatement.

Even before his first competitive outing, the Uruguayan was scrutinized by rival fans and his own supporters alike, with early pre-season displays derided.

Four goals against RB Leipzig in another warm-up game were followed by one against Man City in the Community Shield and a late draw against Fulham to start the league campaign, but it has since gone downhill to No. 27. .

A red card in a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace set him back, and three displays since his return have failed to impress him, while a clip of a misguided shot in training with Uruguay went viral last week.

Nunez desperately needed a goal and luckily it came on Tuesday night when Uruguay sealed a 2-0 friendly victory over Canada in Slovakia.

The provider was one of his predecessors at Anfield, with Suárez cutting to the baseline and launching a perfect cross for Núñez to head home for his country’s second.

After a full 90 minutes on the left flank in Friday’s 1-0 loss to Iran, the 23-year-old was rested after spending an hour deployed in a more natural role up front alongside Suarez.

Nunez will now return to Merseyside, where Jurgen Klopp is hoping to regain his confidence after a disappointing start weighed down by his £85m price tag.

There is a chance he will start when Brighton visit on Saturday afternoon, although he faces stiff competition from Roberto Firmino and the recovered Diogo Jota.
