Chelsea planning further talks to bring in new sporting director

Chelsea are planning talks with Bayer Leverkusen’s Tim Steidten about his role as sporting director.

Since Todd Boehly took charge of Chelsea, the American businessman has made sweeping changes to the structure of the club.

Physiotherapist Thierry Laurent was recently told his services were no longer required, and club doctor Paco Biosca was also asked to leave the club.

Marina Granovskaia and Petr Cech also left the club during the early stages of the Boehly era. Granovskaia was heavily involved in Chelsea’s transfer deals, with Cech leaving her technical and performance advisor.

Now, according to The Guardian, Chelsea are planning further talks with Bayer Leverkusen’s Steidten about his role as sporting director.

Chelsea initially hoped to bring in Christoph Freund from Red Bull Salzburg, but the Austrian turned down their offer and decided to stay at the club.

Anyone signed to Chelsea will have to work closely with Graham Potter’s booking analyst Kyle Macaulay.

Potter’s success at Brighton was largely down to good recruiting, finding gems like Enock Mwepu and Moises Caicedo at bargain prices, rather than signing European football superstars.
