Liverpool give 15-year-old Scottish midfielder trial – could follow Ben Doak – Liverpool FC

Liverpool have put another young Scotsman on trial ahead of a possible move to Merseyside, as they continue their campaign to recruit the UK’s top talent.

Since new post-Brexit recruitment rules came into force, Liverpool have channeled their efforts to sign the best young players in the UK.

Stefan Bajcetic was the last newcomer from Europe before British clubs were no longer allowed to sign players under 18 from abroad, with a new trend ever since.

Kaide Gordon, Bobby Clark, Ben Doak, Trent Kone-Doherty, Calum Scanlon and Reece Trueman are among those who have since joined the academy’s ranks, with deals struck with teams in England, Scotland and Ireland.

It has certainly paid off, and is a credit to the club’s recruiting staff as they identify high-potential youngsters from the UK who are available at low rates.

That could continue with the signing of young midfielder Alan Domeracki from Dundee United, who has spent time on trial with both Liverpool and Chelsea this month.

The Daily Record reports that the youngster, who turns 16 next month, has visited the training grounds of both Premier League clubs, who will now weigh up the moves.

Domeracki made his debut for Dundee United’s under-18 team when he was 14, and is now a regular starter, having been one of five youngsters to sign professional terms with the Scottish Premiership side in June.

He is described as a “creative, intelligent and technically strong left central midfielder who can play in deeper or more advanced midfield roles”.

Whether a transfer will take place in the future remains to be seen, with Liverpool running the rule on any number of young players over the course of a season.

But given Domeracki’s pedigree, it stands to reason that the club will monitor his progress should a profitable deal with Dundee United be struck.

The deal that saw 17-year-old right-back Kerr Smith join Aston Villa from Dundee in January could set a precedent, with reports suggesting it could be worth up to £2m.

Meanwhile, Doak moved from Celtic to Liverpool earlier in the summer and had already made his senior debut for the Glasgow outfit, with around £600,000 paid.
